COURSE CONTENT (70%)

 

Searching for Inspiration

 

Choosing a theme, to be the basis for a body of work to be created throughout semester.

 

Formative Tasks: theme research and development, proposal sharing.

Summative Tasks: Art theme proposal, design product and self-assessment, Performance Task Self-Assessment Response Journal

Making Personal Connections: My Theme and Reflective Collage

 

 

Art History

Choosing a theme, to be the basis for a body of work to be created throughout semester.

Using the style of an artist mentor selected from the art history unit, students will create a self-portrait that demonstrates a prevailing mood from their selected text, Students will also consolidate their art theory and history learning in a written critical analysis* of their artist mentor and his/her work and historical and artistic significance 

Formative Tasks: theme research and development, proposal sharing.

Summative Tasks: Art theme proposal, design product and self-assessment

Performance Task Self-Assessment Response Journal

Theme and Reflective Collage

Students will create a multi-media photo-transfer collage that demonstrates a personal connection to their selected text 

 

Formative Tasks: collage slide show and lesson, exemplar critique, collage thumbnails and planning, project critique 

Summative Tasks: collage product and self-assessment 

Performance Task Self-Assessment Response Journal 

Masters, Media, & Mentors: The Historical Connection

 

 

Meaning, Character & Symbolism: Pyrography

 

Students will create a pyrography piece that symbolically illustrates a character from their selected text 

Formative Tasks: exemplar critique, foundations ex: creating value through line, printmaking thumbnails and planning, project critique 

Summative Tasks: printmaking product (plate, edition, artist proof) product and self-assessment

 

Unifying Themes:

Connects two diverse images to a central, unifying literature-based theme, using a diptych method.

Formative Tasks: foundations drawing exercises (value, the figure, gesture, coloured pencil etc.), diptych slide show and lesson, exemplar critique, diptych thumbnails and planning, project critique 

Summative Tasks: diptych product and self-assessment 

Culminating Unit (30%)

 

-Sketch Book (10%): Your sketchbook will be assessed throughout the term and evaluated at the end. It should be an accurate representation of your creative process, using a VARIETY of mediums (representational drawings, mixed media collage, photography, abstract drawings, sketches, conceptual designs, cartoons, doodles, poetry, art articles.). Date each work. Every other Friday will (in theory) be an assessment day.

 

-Portfolio(10%): Your portfolio will be collection of your best, favorite, most inspired pieces of work that you created this semester. You will need to choose at least 9-10 pieces, you can gather this work in a folder, in a booklet of photographs, or in an online format (instagram, flipgram, pinterest, etc.)

 

-Art Show (10%): Your participation, organization and planning of the art show will be 10% of your final mark. It will include the following elements: advertising, set up and take down of your area and theme, artist statement, and professional labeling of you work.
